Israel hits Gaza hard with air strikes – president jailed for rape

Huffington Post: Following mortar attacks from Gaza over the weekend which had injured two people in Israel, on Monday, the country’s military launched an intensive air strike into Gaza. Around 19 people were reported wounded and the strikes caused damage to buildings.

HuffPost AOL.News: Israel’s former President, Moshe Katsav, received a seven year jail sentence on Tuesday for rape. He had pleaded not guilty to the charges that he had raped his aide twice when he was a cabinet minister in the late 90’s and had  molested or sexually harassed up to two other women colleagues in his 2000-2007 presidential term of offfice.

The judges convicting him in December last year said that his testimony has been ‘riddled with lies’. “When a woman says no, she means no,” the panel had said when it judged the Katsav.

Rockets fired from Gaza – hit Israel

BBC News: A heavy missile attack was made from Gaza today by Palestinian militants. Around 50 rockets were fired and two Israelis were injured according to Israel.  Later on Israeli tanks barraged Gaza’s coastal area and it is reported that over 5 people were injured.

Hamas, which runs Gaza, confirmed that it had discharged most of the rockets as a few days ago an Israeli air strike killed two of its team.

In the meantime, Israeli authorities continue to build settlements on the occupied territories despite a UN resolution to the contrary.
