World’s most expensive picture auctions for $3.89 million at Christie’s

[Arts & Media Contributor, Julie Steen]

At an auction at Christie’s, this photo (Untitled Nr. 96) sold for $3.89 million. A nice little earner for photographer Cindy Sherman.

Cindy studied art at Buffalo State College and majored in photography.  Many of her photographs are of herself in settings that parody woman stereotypes. Her unique approach took her to celebrity status worldwide in art circles in the 1980s.

Her works are enshrined in the Tate Gallery, London, and the Corcoran Gallery, Washington, DC, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan and Brooklyn museums in New York.
