Huffington Post reports that this Tuesday the US Iowa State’s House of Representatives heard an impassioned and surprisingly eloquent defence, from 19-year-old university student, Zack Wahls, to a resolution that would end gay marriages in the State. Zack Wahls condemned the resolution which would end civil unions in Iowa by describing his own experience as the son of two lesbian partners.
In a moving and captivating speech to the House he said: “Our family really isn’t so different from any other Iowa family. When I am home, we go to church together, we eat dinner, we go on vacations.. in my 19 years not once have I ever been confronted by an individual who realized independently that I was raised by a gay couple ….and you know why? Because the sexual orientation of my parents has had zero effect on the content of my character.”
Are your parents gay? What are your experiences of being raised by a gay couple? Times of Dominica is always interested to hear what you have to say.
